ALL in this together
By: Napoleon S. Janczak
People in the U.S. have this insatiable need to be reactive. Nothing is a problem until it affects you personally. Why should we care? What good is any man made thing if you are too sick to enjoy it, too ignorant to understand it, too stubborn to use it, too impatient for it to work, and too DEAD to...
We are always trying to find the thing that will satisfy us. Someone will say what I want to hear, and when that happens then it must be better than the alternative. The proven alternative.
Make no mistake there are only a select few that truly fall into this category. They are the most selfish, and insecure folks among us.
Take a look around you. This inconvenience has to be wrong, because well, it is inconvenient. Welcome to the world of the World of America's sick, minority, poor, low wage (essential) worker, and all who have a historic generational trauma in this country, who even now are dying at disproportional numbers, compared to those arguing about their inconveniences, and constitutional rights that still have not perfected this union for the many groups I've just listed. Yes, it sucks to have to live like these groups don't it?
Do you really think we are afraid? My personal story would give most of you nightmares, and others would never have even dreamed of it. That is a story of many in the groups I've just mentioned. No, we are not afraid; we are survivors. We come from an ancestry of survivors, and warriors. It is in our DNA. We know perfectly well what it feels like to be isolated, hungry, sick, tired, and needing work. We understand what it feels like to have to ask someone less educated, and perhaps weaker than we are to give us the help we need, and they in turn look down on us for it.
YES, We know how this feels! We also know how to get through it, because we have grown up through the greatest oral traditions of sacrifice, and hard lessons of tough love, and experiences to not take any thing for granted, and to never forget where you came from. We know what it feels like to not have control over the things we need.
Now I have a few questions that need answering? How many dead people are acceptable to make you feel better? How many sick and dead people are worth a day at the beach? How many sick and dead family members are worth your job? Those of you who've lost a parent; what would you give to be with them for another day? How many dead people are worth a basketball game, a baseball game, a movie, or a racing event? How many dead and sick people work, contribute to the economy, spend money, take care of you at the hospitals, and other services?
This attitude among us currently is not about the economy, or rights. (None of these things are truly threatened.) It is about holding on to a power that had always been enjoyed in the past, and now they are confronted with actually being equal to everyone else. They were put into this position without asking for it, or being able to control it. They are forced to live like all the folks they have looked down on, and that is uncomfortable, and inconvenient. The myths that they enjoyed for so long had now become their reality. The economy is largely automated now. It is not going to stop because you are unable to gather in groups for a period of time. It is not going to stop because you are not able to go to a movie. Understand that these are temporary. Illness is irreversible. Death is finality.
There is so much more I could say on this, but I am busy putting together a podcast, and I will air it out there. You can stay tuned here for further info on that. I have been working on this for sometime, and i plan on being more personal for my paid subscribers, and general shows will be open for everyone. Pretty exciting stuff, I digress.
We all want to get to normal. Some of us have been working at this for a lot longer than others, and I can tell you that no amount of trying to bully this Covid-19 is going to make it happen any faster for you. In fact it will be worse in round two, because by then our "Soldiers" will be too exhausted to be effective in the healthcare arena. Folks will not seek care, because it will be too difficult to do so.
Last question. What is your government doing for you? They should be making sure you have the ability to be as safe as possible as a country. You pay them for this service. If they are not performing at the best of their ability in protecting your lives, then they are failing. If they had the greatest economical growth in history, then how does it collapse in 3 months? How are we fighting for Toilet paper, and hospital equipment in the greatest nation on the face of the earth/ Does any of that make sense. Many of the jobs in this country can be performed by social distancing, good hygiene, and ingenuity. We went to the freakin Moon!
Stop comparing us to other countries, because we are the only true experiment of who we actually are here. That is reactive, and we are too good at reacting, and taking action. We can learn from what works, and leave the rest.
Just like I have always taught those who cared to witness; "take what you can use, and toss the rest."
Have a wonderful week, we will get through this, but it is going to be a very hard road.
